About Wisconsin Mycological Society

WMS provides education in identification of edible and poisonous mushrooms and an outlet for fungal-focused hobbies including cooking/preservation,  home cultivation, artistic endeavors and more.  Anyone can be a member of WMS. 
WMS members receive our quarterly newsletter, notices of all mushroom hunting forays, dinners, meetings, lectures, workshops and socials.


What We Do

The society offers:
  • Spring, Summer and Fall Forays — Educational nature hikes throughout the state.
  • Winter & Spring  Lecture Series with expert mycologists.
  • Members-Only Socials — Winter Wine & Cheese Social, Summer BBQ, and Multi-Course Gourmet Mushroom Dinners
  • Education on Wisconsin fungi species.
  • Newsletter — Upcoming events, recipes, humor, book reviews, collecting /ID tips, personal anecdotes, and much more.
  • Regular e-Blasts notifiying members of upcoming events, lectures, dinners, socials, forays.
  • Annual Northwoods Weekend Foray
  • Morel Forays
  • The company of other mushroom lovers.
  • Meeting others with a love of the outdoors and a yearning to understand the world of fungi and how it relates to our planet.

Our History

Wisconsin Mycological Society (WMS), was established many years ago, dedicated to the study and enjoyment of wild mushrooms and other fungi. Education, photography, safety and nature are our goals.  We do not ID mushrooms through this website.  If you are in need of an ID consider Wild Food Wisconsin or Mushroom Identification Group.
