Our 2025 Board of Directors met this past November in a self-guided 'Board retreat' to discuss our organization, planning, and various ways of utilizing rutabagas (see rutabaga incense holder, held by Maurissa, first row on the right)
That's great!
All WMS members are eligible to run in our regular elections (held by direct vote of the membership on a yearly basis) and to be considered for a vote by the current Board to serve the remainder of a Board term, the event of a vacancy.
There are some requirements for joining the WMS Board of Directors.
Some of these are set in our Bylaws - which we recommend reading through.
Others have been set by policies past by the Board, including a conflict of interest policy, for example.
Finally, there are some de facto requirements that are set by the way we conduct business currently. Our Board meetings are held on Zoom, and committee meetings are held on Zoom or Google Meet. Agendas are sent by email as attached documents and/or links to Google documents.
For file organization, we use a 'shared drive' on Google Drive. For sharing calendar events, we use Google Calendar. If you would prefer to organize your own calendar, and not rely on these shared events, that works too.
Outside of meetings, members of the Board correspond by email primarily, with some members also communicating by text, phone call, Signal message, WhatsApp, Facebook messenger, Slack, and no doubt other messaging and calling applications with each other. Sometimes, we even see each other in person believe it or not.
Of these, email, capacity to access Google Drive files, and Zoom are truly necessary for participation on the Board as it is currently run. If you would like to propose some change to that, please feel free to mention it on the interest form.
Our current regular board meeting date is last Mondays of each month, 7 PM central. These meetings ideally last an hour and a half or so. However they have been known to go longer.
