Some WMS events occur in the same spot, same time of year on a regular basis. While you should wait to see in the newsletter sent to members to learn of all exact dates, you can estimate when an event will be next year from when it has been in the past.
But what about getting a flavor of what the event is like? See below for pictures forays and descriptions of the fun times of years past.
This page is just a start, and will continue to be expanded. Please send in any photos you may have, along with suggestions and reflections. Thank you!

Hiles Foray based in Hiles, WI of Forest County
. . . usually last Thursday to Sunday in July
This ~30-60 person event is centered around the Hiles Town/Fire Hall where we collect our specimens, have table talks about what we found, use the kitchenette to prepare for any potlucks (if planned), and generally mill around talking fungi. Sometimes we plan a slideshow presentation on a mycological topic by one of the mycologists. Arrival and check-in is Thursday, forays into the woods for fungi are Friday and Saturday morning and afternoon, and saying goodbye is Sunday.
Hiles is in a beautiful area with a lot of mycological activity and diversity. What we find as always depends on the weather, but they don't claim to be the "Mushroom Capital of Wisconsin" for nothing. We have well-loved foraging spots for chantrelles and both red and green "lobster" mushrooms among other interesting edible species, and trails in unique habitats that are more geared toward being myco-diversity forays, which are wonderful for the scientists and artists among us. You will hear about which trails are which at the event.
Fungi foray centered in Hiles started with Dr. Britt Bunyard many years ago and picked up by WMS as an event to support, help run, and keep going. Britt is an Amanita expert, published, and is editor of Fungi Magazine. Thanks Britt! And thank you to all foray leaders, event organizers, local people we work with and lovely attendees who make Hiles foray happen.
