Josey is currently a Land Steward at the Restoring Lands land trust, and graduated from Northland College with a B.S. in Natural Resources and Water Science.
In his own words: My initial interest in mycology emerged in 2012 when I was 13, after watching the show Bizarre Foods with Andrew Zimmer exposed me to the idea of foraging for gourmet delicacies in my local ecosystem. Ultimately, that sparked a passion that will last a lifetime. Initially, I was much overwhelmingly interested in foraging from a culinary standpoint (and I still very much am), but now I have a far greater appreciation for ecology and biodiversity. My interest in mycology has blossomed into an infatuation since I joined WMS in 2022, and I credit so much of that to this amazing organization! Ultimately, my aim is to be someone who offers creative ideas to get more people fired up about mycology, fungal ecology, and gourmet mushroom cookery, and to facilitate more programming closer to large population centers (especially Milwaukee). |
