Join us for Rustic Camping
2026 in Bayfield, WI

**Registration is not yet open for 2026**

Our 6th year at this magical spot!

September 24 to 27, 2026 Thursday to Sunday

With day passes for 9/25 Friday & 9/27 Saturday available!

The Rustic Camping Foray is graciously hosted on the private land of a long-time WMS member and Board member and his family.
Participants are invited to camp (tent but some RV space available) among the organic blueberry patch and surrounding fields and woods. A central fire pit serves as the gathering spot for breakfasts, dinners, and evening socials.

Accommodations are sparse; however porta johns are on site and electricity and internet may be available on an emergency basis. Personal baby wipes may be your best bet for a "shower", though!

If you have any questions about the accommodations, the campsites, please contact us.

***We are currently in the planning phase for the programming and pricing of this year's event. See below for a look at what past Rustic Camping Forays have looked like.***

Prepare for overflowing baskets of edible fungi! Our foray leaders really know this area. Especially Bayfield's own local mushroom expert, Arne Martinson. Featured here: Lobster mushrooms, chanterelles, & black trumpets. Photo taken by Jessica Wolff.

Russell's bolete, Aureoboletus russellii -- check out that decorated stipe! This is an edible species we have foraged, cooked in cast iron over the campfire, and sampled together. Photo taken at Bayfield Rustic Camping 2022 by Brennon Strnad.

We do not ID mushrooms through this website.
If you are in need of an ID consider uploading quality photos with multiple views of your specimen and descriptions of your find to Mushroom Observer or iNaturalist including our projects or post in Wild Food Wisconsin or Mushroom Identification Group.

If you contact us and provide a way to get back to you, we may be able to provide suggestions for more identification resources you can use.
You are always responsible for your own decisions taken on the basis of identification resources.
