Directions to Pike Lake State Park

Diagonally bisected by the Ice Age trail in Washington County, the Kettle Moraine State Forest – Pike Lake Unit is named after the large spring fed kettle – Pike Lake. Powder Hill is a large glacial kame with a tower (1350’ elevation, 2nd highest in SE WI).
Includes wetlands, maple, oak, basswood, prairie, glacial terrain, (& eskers).

Meet at Powder Hill parking lot is on Powder Hill Rd, just off HWY 60.
Directions to Pike Lake Unit:
  • Located on HWY 60 between Slinger and Hartford, WI
  • 20 mi NW of Milw., 60 mi NE of Madison.
  • 3 mi. W of Hwy 41, 7 mi. W of Hwy 45.
  • Annual admission sticker or daily pass required.
  • Turn S off HWY 60 on Powder Hill Rd., half mi. east of Main entrance.
 
Itinerary:
  • From Powder Hill lot, we’ll take Ice Age trail NE to boundary, then
  • Return clockwise to lot N to S around eastern perimeter or
  • Shorter trail through center of forest. back to lot for lunch (12:30).
  • Then we will cross road and walk the Black Forest Trail, then
  • South on Ice Age to Powder Hill tower loop, then options
  • Back on south to north trails returning to car lot.
