Shelby is a new Wisconsin Mycological Society board member as of 2024 and still new to the wonderful world of mycology. Growing up on the Gulf Coast of Florida, there weren't many mushrooms around that she noticed. Moving to Wisconsin in 2003 she became captivated by the forests and rivers of this state.
Her love for all things nature blossomed in 2020. The pressure to figure out what was available in her local area for food and medicine increased. She is a self-taught herbalist, forager, gardener and obsessed with all things mushroom.
Currently, Shelby is the Operations Manager at a mushroom cultivation farm in Eau Claire, Wisconsin called Fun Guy Farm, online at funguy-farm.com. They sell gourmet and medicinal mushrooms at local farmers markets, stores and restaurants. They also make medicinal mushroom tinctures, coffee, tea, etc. Their store is located on Western Avenue in Eau Claire.
Shelby is going all-in her first year on the WMS board of directors as co-chair of the marketing committee alongside Emilymae King as well as being on three other committees. She is looking forward especially to the Tri-County Foray (Cumberland, WI) and Rustic Camping Foray (Bayfield, WI) this summer along with meeting all kinds of new people. She hopes to share her knowledge about medicinal mushrooms and plants throughout Wisconsin with the Society.
