Stef Lee has been a committed member of the Wisconsin Mycological Society (WMS) since 2011 and was elected to the Board of Directors in the fall of 2022. During her first term, she has served the board as Assistant Treasurer and is actively engaged in multiple committees, including finance, wild mushroom certification, events, merchandise, and bylaws. A significant achievement was her contribution to a dedicated team that successfully drafted and passed updated club bylaws over the past year and a half.
In January 2024, Stef took the initiative to form a new merchandise committee to which she was elected chair. This committee focuses on tracking sales, orders, and inventory, sourcing new items, and developing an online store to boost merchandise revenue for WMS. She has also co-chaired and managed budgets for four annual retreat forays, including the Hiles and Northwoods forays in 2023 and 2024, and has played a key role within the finance committee by helping to compile and oversee the overall budget of the Society.
WMS has experienced growth in both membership and financial assets in recent years, paving the way for exciting future developments in events, research, and science initiatives. Stef is passionate about her work and intends to continue her involvement in all previously mentioned committees, as well as participate in a new governance committee which will focus on policy issues.
Professionally, Stef is a self-employed musician playing in both Sloppy Joe and The Foragers, as well as a screen printer and soap maker based in Iola, WI. Together with her partner James, she operates an event-based LLC that hosts a large annual festival, drawing 2,500 attendees each Labor Day weekend in central Wisconsin. Stef is eager to further develop her role in WMS and is dedicated to the time and effort necessary to be an effective board member.
