"Everything Truffle" - Science and Culture

Join us for an hour-long presentation with 30 min of Q&A on everything Truffle with William Padila-Brown!

Founder of MycoSymbiotics, William Padilla-Brown is a social entrepreneur, citizen scientist, mycologist, amateur 'phychologist', urban shaman, writer, you-tube vlogger, contributing editor for Fungi mag, researcher, poet, and father.

William holds Permaculture Design Certificates acquired through Susquehanna Permaculture and NGOZI. William is leading the country in the field of Cordyceps cultivation. William also regularly teaches at mushrooms clubs around the country, festivals, Agricultural conferences, and more.

This June 17th, he will be presenting a lecture on that most mouth-watering of fungi: Truffles. Though most famous in culinary circles, William will cover the subject with his characteristic attention to scientific and cultural depth, starting with truffles' ancient origins and taking us through the biology and chemistry of these cryptic fungi's underground titillating scent explosions.

Modern research is constantly uncovering more layers of the mysteries that are truffles - from over 200 volatile aromatic compounds, to the production of anandamide, major metabolic enzymes for the endocannabinoid system, allomelanin, and much more. We will touch on how and why they fetch such a high price, the history of cultivation, and how you can get involved with truffles!

You can find much more of William Padilla-Brown's work and mycological presence online, including a number of great interviews and his videos.

Wisconsin Mycological Society (WMS) is dedicated to the study and enjoyment of mushrooms and other fungi throughout the state of Wisconsin. Education, safety, sustainability, community, and connecting with nature are our goals.

We are affiliated with NAMA, a society that covers all of North America and includes many affiliate clubs. We also love to support regional  Wisconsin clubs and fungi related events. This includes the Madison Mycological Society and the Northwestern Wisconsin MycoEnthusiasts.

If you run or want to start a regional group, or one focused on a unique mycological topic, please do reach out to us.
