Hiles, Wisconsin is shown on the map above.

2026 will be the 18th Annual Hiles Foray!
July 16th to July 19th
Thursday to Sunday

* day-passes will be available for 7/17 & 7/18*

Hiles: the “Mushroom Capital of Wisconsin!”
This region features a diverse mix of trees, including beech, hemlock, spruce, tamarack, paperbark and gray birch, sugar maple, hop hornbeam and red oak, primarily, leading to a diverse mix of fungi. You can see just a fraction of what we found in 2022, in this iNaturalist project.

The foray takes place in some of the most beautiful locations that the Chequamegon-Nicolet National Forest has to offer, as well as some select locations within the Pelican River Forest. The weekend of this foray marks the start of height of mushroom season in Wisconsin, where hundreds of species are growing, many in abundance.

Hands-on fungi education with our foray leaders on the trail and back at our homebase (Hiles Town Hall) takes place throughout this event and is an immersion in all things fungi. Whether you're a curious beginner, or coming in with a specific plan to engage in science, find community, or get into foraging and culinary delights, there is something at Hiles for you.

***We are currently in the planning phase for the programming and pricing of this year's event. See below for a look at what past Hiles Forays have looked like.***

If you are in need of an ID consider uploading quality photos with multiple views of your specimen and descriptions of your find to Mushroom Observer or iNaturalist including our projects or post in Wild Food Wisconsin or Mushroom Identification Group.

If you contact us and provide a way to get back to you, we may be able to provide suggestions for more identification resources you can use.
You are always responsible for your own decisions taken on the basis of identification resources.
