May 6 (Saturday) - 1 pm to 3 pm - Meet at Crossroads at Big Creek, indoors in the Collins Learning Center with a presentation by Charlotte Lukes from 1:30 to 2 pm and displays on wild mushrooms and mushroom cultivation. WMS is supporting Door Peninsula Mushroom Club (DPMC) starting its first year as a new regional club, and we are celebrating their creation by letting our members know about their 1st annual Mushroom Day!

This symposium will honor Dr. Volk’s profound and enduring scientific impacts in the field of mycology and beyond. The symposium agenda is available here. June 3 (Saturday) 10 am to 12 pm - Navarino Nature Center - southwestern part of Shawano County - we will meet in front of the center! We ask that if you plan to attend, you register with the Nature Center here to help them keep track of their visitor numbers.

June 9, 10 (Friday-Saturday) Milwaukee Public Museum Bioblitz at Havenwoods State Forest in Milwaukee - sign up for participation was to be in by May 1st, and was sent to all WMS members. Public welcome to visit the Bioblitz without sign up on Saturday from 10 am -3 pm. WMS will have our own finds table there.

July 20 (Thursday) WMS on Zoom presentation by Yulia Welk on her background in fungi as medicine with a focus on the benefits of medicinal mushrooms for skincare. August 17 (Thursday) WMS on Zoom presentation by Shannon Pump of Wild Dörr Mushrooms and Foraging - this will be a "Tick Talk"! A discussion on tick prevention techniques, what to do if bit, and what ticks can carry.  Shannon will share the variety of treatments that she is using for her own Lyme's disease.
Zoom meeting opens 6:30 PM Central, presentation begins at 7 PM Central.

August 24 - 27th  (Thursday to Sunday) North American Mycological Association (NAMA) Annual Foray - Appalachia NAMA 2023 in Hendersonville North Carolina. This is a NAMA, not WMS event. Registration is open.

Aug 25 – 27 (Friday to Sunday) Madison Mycological Society annual Camping Foray - Kettle Moraine State Park, Madison Mycological Society membership required for this foray. See their website for updates and more details.

Cancelled  - August 26 (Saturday) Door Peninsula Mushroom Club event: Tour of Wildwood Gourmet Mushrooms in Sister bay - - Reschedule if any TBD.

🌟 August 31st - September 3rd (Thurs.-Sunday) Tri County Foray co-hosted by the Northwestern Wisconsin MycoEnthusiasts and WMS. September 14 (Thursday) WMS on Zoom with Chilean mycologist and mycological activist and author, Guiliana Furci presenting on her incredibly interesting work with Fungi Foundation. We will have no WMS fungi species list or iNaturalist review before this presentation, which will start with Guiliana presenting at 6:30 PM.

October 7 (Saturday) 10 am Joint foray with UW-Parkside and Illinois Mycological Association. We are planning a mycological microscopy workshop at this foray. It will be at UW-Parkside. 🔬

AFTER THE FORAY - Following the foray there will be a microscopy workshop.  There is limited space in the workshop, so if you are not very interested, we ask that you pass on this event to create space for those who are super into this. The workshop will be hosted by David Rogers and the Department of Biology

December 21 (Thursday) WMS on Zoom presentation by Dr. Dave Zaber on Lessons Not Learned: Industrial logging in the Chequamegon Nicolet National Forest - meeting opens at 6:30 PM Central, and the main presentation begins at 7 PM Central.

This lecture will be a talk regarding the Fourmile project in the Chequamegon Nicolet National Forest. Dave has been working on conservation issues in the upper Midwest for years with a special interest in land management. Dave is pleased to discuss this project within the context of his 30 + years working on northern forests.

We are affiliated with NAMA, a society that covers all of North America and includes many affiliate clubs. We also love to support regional  Wisconsin clubs and fungi related events.
